Niger Delta Avengers threaten

The Niger Delta Avengers have
threatened to do something that will
shock the whole world.
In a series of tweets, the militants revealed that
they blew up another oil pipeline belonging to the
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on
Thursday, May 26, which they claimed was heavily
guarded by the Nigerian military.
The group also blasted the Niger Delta
stakeholders over the meetings they held in the
region, stating that they want a sovereign state and
not pipeline contracts.
While explaining how they blew up the pipeline in
Warri, the group tweeted:
At 11:45pm on Thursday. @NDAvengers blew
up other #NNPC Gas and Crude trunkline
close to Warri. Pipeline that was heavily
guarded by Military

The governor said that 80 per cent of tomatoes
farms have been ravaged by an exotic pest, called
tomato blight (Tuta Absoluta).
He said about 200 farmers in only three local
government areas in the state lost one billion Niara
in the last one month.
Speaking at a Press Conference through his
Commissioner for Agriculture in Kaduna, he said
already, some officials of the ministry had been sent
to Kenya to liaise with experts and return with the
best way of arresting the situation.
He said: “I want to say that Governor
Nasir El-Rufai has declared a state-
of-emergency on tomatoes in the
state. This is as a result of invasion
of the crops by a pest named tomato
blight, botanically known as Tuta
Aboluta.
“In the past one month, 12 local
government areas of the state that
produce tomatoes have lost 80 per
cent of its tomatoes harvest. In three
local government areas, about 200
farmers have lost one billion naira
worth of their tomatoes. So you can
imagine the magnitude of the lose.
“It is so severe that even Dangote
who has established a tomato
processing plant in Kano, had to shut
down production.

than 10 percent of what happened in
Agatu, the Governor of the state was
there and even the Inspector General
of Polce, IGP, that is what I called
pro-activeness,” he said.

Senator Bassey Akpan
Bassey Akpan, the chairman of the Senate
committee on gas, has said that owners of Nigeria’s
stolen money stashed in the various banks all over
the world should be granted special amnesty.
Akpan expressed his opinion on Monday, May
23, while addressing journalists in his office, The
Punch reports.
The senator said that Nigeria has hundreds of
billions of dollars stashed in various banks abroad.
However, the countries where the stolen money kept
are using them to drive their own economy, while
Nigerians are suffering.
“The time has come when we have to
think outside the box and my own
position is this, it is possible that the
government can declare amnesty on
stolen money. Let every Nigerian that
has taken money out of this country
be given amnesty to bring back the
money and invest in the country.”
“When owners of the Nigeria’s

stolen foreign currencies bring them
back to the country as a result of the
amnesty, a lot of foreign exchange
can be generated to fund our local
consumption and we can set target,”
he said.
Akpan said those who had stolen the nation’s money
should be encouraged to bring it back and invest in
Nigeria’s economy.
Describing the current pains as unnecessary, the
senator expressed assurance that the federal
government has what it takes to turn around the
economy.
“Why are we suffering in the midst of
plenty? Amnesty was created for
militancy, we should create amnesty
for anybody that has taken money
outside this country so that they can
invest them in the country. We can
generate a hundred billion dollar in
the process in less than six months.
“We need enough forex to fund our
importation, rebuild our industries,
establish capacity locally and import
raw materials for industries before
thinking of exporting finished
products. Where we are as a country
now, we should begin to look
inward,” he noted.
Akpan stressed that the government should not only
fight corruption, but let its battle yield the
appropriate results.
“Our economy based on the
statistics available to us has gone
into full blown recession. There is
reduction in revenue collection based
on the basis of oil export because of
the dwindling global oil crisis.

Oluwatosin an MTN customer care executive,
had turned down his marriage proposal, causing a
frustrated Ogundele to stab her and her mother
multiple times in her apartment.
Oluwatosin later died from her stab wounds, while
her mother survived and is undergoing life-saving
surgery.
Ogundele was arrested three weeks after he committed
the crime, on May 14, in Osun state, after he was
tracked down by undercover agents.

A statement by the spokespersons of IPOB,
Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka
Iroanya noted that in the present-day Nigeria, the
nation of Biafra consists of Abia, Akwa Ibom,
Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta,
Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers states as
well as Igbanke in Edo state, Igala in Kogi
State, and Idoma in Benue state.
The group also noted that with the footprints of
Biafra above, Nigerians can get to see that
Biafra is not populated by only the Igbo-speaking
people, and according to IPOB, the last head of

Ayuba Wabba, the national president of the
Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), on
Thursday, May 19, said that the congress was
ready to negotiate with the federal government.
He disclosed this in the National Assembly
Abuja, while briefing newsmen after a closed-door
meeting between the leadership of the Union and
Bukola Saraki, the Senate president.
He said that the strike would continue as the
government had yet to reach out to the union for
negotiations.
Wabba also said that contrary to media reports, he
did not walk out of any negotiation meeting with the
federal government adding that the union had not
received any formal invitation for any meeting since
the strike commenced.
“The Senate leadership called us to
brief them about what transpired and
where we are now, which we have
already done.
“This is also to confirm because
there has been media reports that we
had been invited and we refused to
attend meetings.
“We said no, we have not received
any formal invitation for any meeting
arising from the walkout.
“The strike is still on but we are open
to dialogue,” he said.
Wabba-led faction had embarked on industrial action
and protest since Wednesday due to the hike in fuel
price from N86.50 to N145 per litre
Although, the Trade Union Congress (TUC)
and the Joe Ajaero-led NLC faction withdrew
from the industrial action.
Saraki in his remarks said that the NLC has
shown commitment for dialogue, adding that the
National Assembly will play its role in resolving
the crisis.
However, the Senate on Wednesday after a
closed-door meeting, directed its committee on
Labour to mediate between the federal government
and labour unions to resolve the differences.

Ukura, however, assured that Nigeria was in the
process of conducting an environmental audit of the
River Niger to determine its level of dryness.
Meanwhile, AGoF has called on the National
Assembly to pass the Audit Bill into law. He
said there were certain international ratings that the
country cannot attain without passing an audit law.

Ukura explained that the initial investigation of the
River Niger showed that the decline of the river’s
flow was mainly due to climate change, industrial
waste and problems caused by population growth.

spreads through ten countries.
It is estimated that about 110 million people live in
the river’s basin. Ukura said the audit will be done
under the African Supreme Audit Institute
(AFROSAI), with Mali, Niger,
Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, Algeria,
Chad and Cote I’voire taking centre stage as they
are directly affected.

of insubordination by the latter.
According to Signal, sources revealed that both
ministers were close to exchanging physical blows on

over acts of insubordination by the junior minister.
Sirika is reportedly reluctant to have Amaechi (a
senior minister and direct boss) push him around.
But the former Rivers state governor is on the

working to put him in his place.
The reason for the junior minister’s acts, sources
disclosed, is the fact that he is from President
Buhari’s Katsina north senatorial district, where
he served as a senator.
A source explained details of the incident to
Signal thus: “It’s all about power tussle.

his boundaries and should mind his
business as Transport Minister. But
Amaechi is also in charge of
Aviation.
“He is the senior minister, while
Sirika as Minister of State for
Aviation is junior minister. But Sirika
sees himself as the President’s guy.

A Saudi groom reportedly filed for divorce from
his bride on their wedding night because she refused
to perform her conjugal duties of having sex with
him, and instead chose to chat with her friends.
The bride and groom had gone to their hotel room
in Manama, Bahrain, after their wedding ceremony
and while the expectant groom hoped he would spend
quality time with his new wife, she chose to reply
friends and family who had sent in their
congratulations.
The groom had reportedly asked her to stop chatting
and became angry when she refused. A relative said
the groom had asked her how important he was to
her, “When he asked her if her
friends were more important than he
was, the bride answered that they
were.”
They got into a heated argument which prompted the
groom to storm out of the hotel room in anger,
threatening to divorce her as well.
According to the relative, the groom went ahead to
file for a divorce, which the court referred to the
reconciliation committee to try to get the newlyweds

Nigerian government, after a last minute meeting in

NLC says the Nigerian government is not ready
to heed the demands of the people.
Representatives of the organised labour staged a
walkout on government representatives, claiming that
the government refused to even consider its demand
for a reversal of the price hike, and an earlier
increase in electricity tariffs.
The meeting, called by the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation (SGF),
Babachir Lawal, was attended by the president of
NLC, Aliyu Wabba, who led representatives
of affiliate groups including Trade Union
Congress, TUC, and civil society organisations.
Sources reveal that the meeting was barely an hour
into its agenda when the labour leaders decided to
stage a walkout after what they called the “refusal of
government to accede to their demands”.
Premium Times reports that the General
Secretary of the NLC, Peter Ozo-Eson, said
members could not continue to put up with the
government’s unbending attitude towards their
demands.
“The talks with government broke
down because it was not ready to
address the issues the NLC placed
on the table for discussion; so we
left,” Mr. Ozo-Eson said.

Nigerians have remained in topsy-
turvy following the new
development in the country’s
downstream oil sector.Now lets  recalls that the federal government
on Wednesday, May 11, removed subsidy from
sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also
known as petrol with immediate effect.
According to the government, a benchmark of
N145 per litre, has been recommended as pump
price.
The announcement was made by Ibe Kachikwu,
minister of state for petroleum, who however promised
the price will not stay for so long.
This however didn’t go down well with the
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the
Trade Union Congress (TUC), who vowed to
go on strike to force the federal government to revert
to the former pump price of petrol (now pegged at
N145).
But just as both labour unions planned an
industrial action to force the federal government to
revert to the former pump price of petrol, the
government filed a suit at the Industrial court to
restrain the NLC and TUC from embarking
on strike. And in the early hours of Wednesday,
May 18, the court read an injunction against
NLC and TUC not to go on strike. The
court order shows that should the NLC and
TUC go ahead with the industrial action, then
they are going against the law.
Just before the court order, a meeting into the night
of Tuesday, May 17, between the federal
government and the labour workers to reach a
compromise over the proposed action, ended in a
deadlock.

arrested and detained by the

Commission for alleged fraud.

“This is a congregation prayers in
Shekarau house seeking for God to
destroy the government of Buhari for
his lack of good governance.
“People praying for God to deliver
them from the hardship and
difficulties that Buhari has put us

Shekarau was arrested by EFCC on May 12,
Thursday, over alleged sharing of N950 million
campaign funds in his house at Mundubawa in
Kano metropolis.
He was alleged to have gathered N25 million as
his own share of the money and consequently quizzed
by the Commission for interrogation.

The National Industrial Court has stopped the
Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union
Congress from going on with their planned national
strike over fuel pump hike.
President of the court, Babatunde Adejumo gave
the order on Tuesday, May 17 as FG and
labour leaders continue to meet over reduction in fuel
pump price.
Recall that over the weekend, organised labour and
the civil society gave the Federal Government till
midnight on Tuesday to reverse the increase or face
an indefinite national strike.

Ruling on an exparte application filed by
Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the
federation (AGF), Adejumo ordered parties to
maintain the status quo until the hearing and
determination of the exparte motion.
He also directed the government to dialogue with the
NLC towards an amicable resolution of their
dispute.
The case was adjourned to May 24 for hearing of
the motion on notice.
Meanwhile, the two major unions in Nigeria’s oil
and gas sector endorsed the price modulation
mechanism adopted by the Federal Government to
arrive at the new N145 per litre pump price for
petrol.
