Saraki's trial: Drama as judge loses temper in court room

Saraki's trial: Drama as judge
loses temper in court room
– One of Bukola Saraki’s lawyer, Raphael
Oluyede got Danladi Umar, the presiding
judge at the CCT, angry
– Oluyede brought up an application by
Saraki asking Umar to withdraw from his
trial
– The CCT chairman asked that the lawyer
be arrested
Justice Danladi Umar, the presiding judge at
the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on
Thursday, April 21, lost his temper at the
court.
This happened after one of the lawyers on
the Bukola Saraki’s trial, Raphael Oluyede,
announced the motion he filed against the
judge through the Senate president.
The application filed on Wednesday, April 20,
seeks for Umar to withdraw from the case
based on his alleged cases with the
Economic Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC).
When Oloyede was about to commence the
body of the motion, Rotimi Jacobs, the
counsel to the federal government said the
business of the day is to cross examine the
witness, Michael Wetkas, therefore the
motion should not be presented.
“ He was never in this case and the time he
filed this motion he had never appeared on
this case,” he said.
He quoted section 349 of the constitution
which states that a legal practitioner under a
matter is bound to engage in any case
unless he is allowed to by the lead counsel.
Jacobs said because he is not a counsel on
the matter, he will not accept the motion.
He said it’s not ripe for hearing but an
affidavit needs to be filed for it.
But Umar while addressing the issue
dismissed the motion.
“ This motion being filed by a mere busy body
legal practitioner cannot be accepted. He was
the lawyer who sued the judge that he has not
been cleared by the EFCC.
“You are supposed to be leading by example.
How can you allow such rubbish thing to
happen.
“You are granting him an opportunity to
address the tribunal not as a counsel to the
defendant.
“That motion as far as the court is concerned,
that file is thrown away. It is so shameful and
unfortunate,” he said.
Adebayo Adelodun, one of the counsels who
stood up in defense of Oloyede said that it
was the right of the lawyer to file a motion
no matter how unserious it seems and it is
in his power to dismiss it.

CACOL blasts Senators for sharing 108 Land Cruiser jeeps

CACOL blasts Senators for
sharing 108 Land Cruiser jeeps

– The executive chairman of CACOL, Debo
Adeniran has said the Senate is hell-bent on
achieving a record-breaking feat in the
human history of corruption
– Says the head of the Senate has too much
corrupt baggage that would inadvertently
impact corruptly on every approval and
decision to that comes out from that
Chamber
– Adeniran says the issue of corruption is
why CACOL has been insisting on the
resignation of Bukola Saraki as president of
the Senate on moral and ethical grounds
The Coalition Against Corrupt Leader,
(CACOL) has blasted the Senate for
distributing 108 land cruiser jeeps to its
members.
The executive chairman of CACOL, Debo
Adeniran said the Senate appeared
apparently hell-bent on achieving a record-
breaking feat in the human history of
corruption.
Adeniran, who spoke in Lagos said the
Nigerian Senate has severally demonstrated
their greed and shamelessness via their lust
for luxurious frivolities and insensitiveness to
what the scale of preference should be at
this trying time for Nigerians and Nigeria.
“Through immoral and bared-faced unethical
means, the Senate, have cleverly legitimized
their ineptitude in parliamentarianism by
infecting the process with their vagaries,
avarice and innate corrupt tendencies; this
informs why at this point the Senate can
contrive the idea of purchasing exotic jeeps
when basic needs of the vast majority are not
been paid any attention.
“We have in Nigeria today, some Civil servants
both at the State and Federal levels that have
not been paid salaries for months now, there
are doctors, lecturers and teachers threatening
to embark on strike actions if their allowances
are not paid and demands not met.
“The flipside and bad side of the story is that
how come so-called representatives of people
prioritize frivolities over very basic needs of
the people they are supposed to be
representing?”, asked Mr. Debo Adeniran, as
he continued to lampoon the Senate in his
reaction to the unwarranted purchase of 108
exotic jeeps by the body,” he said.
Adeniran added that “ when the head of an
institution is rotten, the whole body gets
infected, the Head of the Senate has too much
corrupt baggage that would inadvertently
impact corruptly on every approval and
decision to that comes out from that already
desecrated Chambers.
And this is why CACOL has been and is still
insisting on the resignation of Dr. Bukola
Saraki as President of the Senate on moral
and ethical grounds. Nigerians need to insist
on that necessity, and be pro-active about
rejecting the toga of shame being foisted on
Nigeria as a country within the comity of
nations. That is the patriotic duty and a clarion
call to all Nigerians to salvage our country. It
is our country, let us take it back.”
