The Red Devils are said to have beaten a raft of
Europe's elite to the defender's signature, which
should cost somewhere in the region of £30 million
Villarreal centre-back Eric Bailly has passed a
medical with Manchester United, according to Sky
Sports.
The transfer fee is said to be in the region of £30
million, with the Red Devils reportedly having
beaten off competition from Man City, Barcelona and
Paris Saint-Germain to land the Ivory Coast
international.
Though Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been touted as Jose
Mourinho's first signing at Old Trafford, the 22-
year-old appears to have beaten the Swede to the

MAN CITY OPEN AUBAMEYANG
TALKS AS UNITED & MADRID
FALL BEHIND IN RACE FOR €75M
STRIKER

By Sam Lee
Having already signed Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia
Dortmund, the Citizens have now begun discussions
with the Bundesliga outfit regarding a move for the
Gabon international
Manchester City are in talks to sign Pierre-Emerick
Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, Goal
understands.
City have stolen a march on rivals Manchester
United, as well as Real Madrid, in the race for the
sought-after striker during talks in recent days.
Dortmund, emboldened by the level of interest from
Europe's biggest clubs, are holding out for a fee of
€75 million, which at around £58.5 milllion would
come close to matching the £54m plus £5m in add-
ons that City paid Wolfsburg for Kevin De Bruyne last
summer.
The Etihad Stadium hierarchy have committed to a
significant overhaul of the playing squad ahead of
Pep Guardiola's official arrival at the start of July,
and have identified Aubameyang, who scored 39
goals in all competitions last season, as a key target
and are willing to get a deal over the line.
Although City had coveted Dortmund's Ilkay
Gundogan for some time, and a deal was virtually in
place long before it was confirmed last week, they
have only recently made their move for Aubameyang.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool had also enquired
about Aubameyang's availability in the first half of
2016, while United were willing to match any offer
for the Gabon international, who recently pulled out
of international duty to resolve his future.
Aubameyang himself has talked up a move to Spain,
and specifically Real Madrid, but he is also open to
playing in the Premier League.
It is thought the striker's head has been turned by
the prospect of working with Guardiola and becoming
part of a new project at the Etihad Stadium.
City's transfer plans are evolving rapidly. Gundogan
became the first signing of the Guardiola era at the
beginning of June, and there is still interest in
long-term centre-back targets John Stones and
Aymeric Laporte, who could cost more than £70m
combined.
Interest in Paul Pogba and Toni Kroos has been
dropped over the past several weeks, while a move
for Jack Wilshere is also thought to be unlikely.
But with City also still in the hunt for speedy
Schalke winger Leroy Sane, among a number of other
targets, the club are ready to lay down a marker in
the summer transfer window.
That would provide a huge confidence boost ahead
of the official unveiling of Guardiola, details of
which the club revealed on Tuesday.
The doors of the City Football Academy training
complex will be thrown open to supporters across the
weekend of July 2 and 3, with the new badge
design and home kit due to be formally revealed on
the Saturday.
Tickets for the second day of the event, when
Guardiola will take to the stage to directly address
supporters, sold out within a matter of hours

The 20-year-old Liga MX champion says his future
is still up in the air but won't be decided until after
the Copa America Centenario.
LOS ANGELES — Hirving Lozano says there’s nothing
decided about his future, despite reports the Mexico
winger is bound for the Premier League.
An official from Pachuca, the club the 20-year-old
helped to the Liga MX Clausura title in May before
joining up with the national team for the Copa
America Centenario, confirmed that Manchester United
has made an approach for the winger's services . But
as information swirls, the player said his
attention hasn’t been drawn away from the national
team.
“I think I’m taking it calmly. Nobody’s said anything
to me. I don’t know anything about that,” Lozano
said at a news conference Tuesday. “I think first, I’m
going to focus here on the national team, finish this
tournament well and, well, obviously after that see
what happens. But right now, they haven’t mentioned
anything to me.”

Pressed if his future was decided or if he could say
with any certainty that he would return to Pachuca,
Lozano said he couldn’t.
“As I said, first I want to concentrate on this
tournament, giving my best, and after the
tournament, talk to my club and see what
possibilities there are,” he said.
Lozano came into Mexico’s first match of the Copa
America Centenario in the second half. While he
didn’t make the final pass for either goal, he set up
the plays for Rafa Marquez’s equalizer and Hector
Herrera’s insurance goal in the 3-1 victory over
Uruguay.

The Premier League winner looks set to join team-
mate Jamie Vardy out of the exit door at the King
Power Stadium after being tempted by talk of offers
from Europe's elite
EXCLUSIVE
Riyad Mahrez is ready to quit Leicester City but the
Premier League champions are still hoping to tie him
to a new and improved contract, Goal has learned.
The PFA Player of the Year is wanted by Europe's
elite after scoring 17 goals and recording 11 assists
to help guide the Foxes to their first ever top-
flight title win in 2015-16.
Mahrez signed a contract extension with Leicester in
August 2015 and is currently earning £35,000-a-
week - much less than Arsenal-bound team-mate
Jamie Vardy who increased his pay packet to
£80,000-a-week after agreeing an improved deal in
February.
Algeria international Mahrez has attracted interest
from the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain
following his match-winning performances for Claudio
Ranieri's side.
Uncertainty currently clouds the 25-year-old's future
but the player himself is keen on leaving the King
Power Stadium in the summer transfer window.

MONTOYA READY TO LEAVE
BARCELONA DESPITE ALVES EXIT

By Ignasi Oliva
The Real Betis loanee, along with Cristian Tello and
Alex Song, will restart his career with a new club,
while Denis Suarez's return from Villarreal is not yet
a done deal
EXCLUSIVE
Martin Montoya is not considering a return to
Barcelona for the coming season despite the exit of
Dani Alves opening up the right-back position.
The academy graduate spent the entire 2015-16
campaign away from Camp Nou, with a loan move to
Inter followed by another temporary switch at Betis.
And while Alves' soon-to-be-completed move to
Juventus could aid Montoya's chances of playing
first-team football, Goal understands that he is
looking for another club.
The 25-year-old's contract at Barcelona still has
two years to run but in the five seasons since he
broke into the senior squad he has made just 67
appearances. "He is only interested in playing," a
source close to Montoya confided.
Barca received several offers for Montoya last
summer before agreeing a deal with Inter and similar
interest is expected in the coming transfer window.
Betis are keen to add him to their squad on a
permanent basis but his high salary demands could
price them out. "We are not prepared to match
Montoya's wages at Barcelona, which means an
agreement is far off right now," sporting director
Miguel Torrecillo recently revealed.
Montoya is not the only loan star likely to leave
Barcelona permanently. Cristian Tello is out of
contract on June 30 and could join Fiorentina after
impressing on loan, while Alex Song is surplus to
requirements.
Alen Halilovic is set to sign for Valencia pending the
agreement of personal terms but Barca will have the
option to re-sign the Croatian starlet for a set fee
in the future.
The expected return of Denis Suarez, who joined
Villarreal from Barca with a similar buy-back clause,
now appears less certain as salary negotiations
continue to stall.
Barca have informed the Yellow Submarine they
intend to exercise the €3 million option in Suarez's
contract but RAC1 report that the offer is only
valid between July 1 and 15.
If Suarez receives a better offer before that date
he is within his rights to accept it and he will
consider his options before committing his future to
Camp Nou.

Pastor, William Kumuyi, has said
Nigerians should not panic because of

Pastor Kumuyi
The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible
Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has said Nigerians
should not panic because of the current socio-
economic and security challenges.
The popular cleric said the nation would soon
overcome them and become better.
The cleric urged the Federal Government to
dialogue with Niger Delta stakeholders to end
renewed militancy in the region.
He said all hands must be on the deck to work for
Nigeria’s progress and fight against its division.
The preacher noted that the need for the nation’s
restructuring should not lead to its division.
Patror Kumuyi said : “We should not worry
ourselves too much on the issue. We
should rather think of how we can move
the country forward because too much
talk about restructuring does not mean
Nigeria will break up.
“The solution is that we should begin to
dialogue. Stakeholders should reason
together and see the way forward, instead
of accusing one another. What we are
interested in is how to solve the problem.
What are the expectations of both sides
so that we can move forward?”
He said comments by Nigerians on the economic
situation were normal, adding that they were
indications that the country deserved better than
the realities on the ground.
“The reason people are commenting is
because Nigeria deserves to be better.
The economy has been low, but we are
getting out of it. With prayers, I know we
will get better,” Pastor Kumuyi said.

Meanwhile, the federal government has ordered
immediate withdrawal of military from the Niger
Delta communities. This was arrived at a meeting
summoned on the instruction of President
Muhammadu Buhari, the federal government and
Niger Delta states .

Panic: Doctors commence
nationwide strike Thursday

– It was only a few weeks ago that the
Labour bodies under the Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC) and Trade Union
Congress (TUC) reached a compromise
with the federal government regarding
the removal of fuel subsidy
– The National Association of Resident
Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) is also
warming up for a nationwide strike
– The body of resident doctors vowed
that the strike which will begin
tomorrow, Thursday, June 9 will be
indefinite
Dr Muhammad Askira, president of the body of
resident doctors made this known to journalists on
Tuesday, June 7.
The president of NARD stated that the decision to
embark on a nationwide strike, was taken at the
ordinary general meeting of the national executive
council of the association, which was held between
May 30 and June 5, at Jos, the capital of Plateau
state, North-central Nigeria.

The president of the association said: “Sixteen
out of 58 federal tertiary institutions or
centres were exempted from the initial
centre based strike for the commitment of
the chief medical director of the hospitals
to implement the federal government’s
directives.
“If by midnight on Sunday, June 19, our
demands are not met, all the members of
the association, including those
exempted, would join the indefinite
nationwide strike.”
According to The Cable, Dr Askira said the
association sees it as very important to take “the
painful decision” due to the failure of the
federal government to grant their request.
He added: “Due to the failure of the
government to address the demands of
NARD, it has declared a total and
indefinite strike.
“NARD has to take this painful decision in
order to highlight the plight of our
hardworking members who have had to
endure a long period of deprivation and
disenfranchisement.”

It was a shameful thing to know, regarding refusal
to pay workers’ salary by the government, as a
teacher who works at Ekiti Baptist High School,
stole a pot of amala from her neighbour’s kitchen
due to unpaid salary.

Top 5 reasons Stephen Keshi
will never be forgotten

The sudden demise of former Super
Eagles captain and coach Stephen
Keshi has thrown the football world
into a state of shock.
The 54-year-old passed away in the wee hours of
today June 8, 2016, according to his relatives and
close associates.
“He was not ill at all, never showed any
signs of illness, but we suspect he never
got over the death of his wife,” one of his
close friends said.
Although Nigerians have continued to react to the
loss, below are five things the ‘Big Boss’ will be
remembered for.
1. Leading Nigeria to win AFCON 2013
Stephen Keshi led the Super Eagles to win the
2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa .
Nigerian appeared at the 29th edition of the
tournament as minnows.
The team began the competition on a rather poor
note with 1 – 1 draws against Burkina Faso and
Zambia respectively, in their opening two games at
the tournament. Nigeria defeated Ethiopia 2 – 0 in
their final group game to proceed to the quarter
final stage against the star-studded Elephants of
Cote d’Ivoire.
Keshi poses with the AFCON 2013 trophy alongside
Super Eagles players and ex-internationals
An Emmanuel Emenike freekick with a Sunday Mba
strike gave the Keshi-led team a 2 – 1 win over
the Ivorians.
Nigeria defeated Mali in the semis and overcame
Burkina Faso in the final to win the tournament for
a third time.
This feat confirmed Keshi as the second person to
win the AFCON tournament as a player and coach,
having also won it in 1994 as a player. The only
person to achieve similar feat was Egyptian
Mahmoud el-Gohary, who is also of blessed
memory.
2. Stephen Keshi assisted many
African players to move to Europe
Keshi played alongside Austin Eguavoen in California
as the backbone of the defence for the short-lived
Sacramento Scorpions. Chidi Nwanu, Odertey
Lamptey, Okechukwu Ajah, Philip Osondu all played
in Belgium with the influence of the ‘Big Boss’.
The moment Sunday Mba scored the goal that
handed Nigeria the AFCON 2013 trophy
Keshi also discovered many great players
including Justice Christopher, Dele Ayenugba and
Sunday Mba.
3. The issues that led to his sack as
the Super Eagles coach
It would be recalled that in 2002 Keshi was
assistant to Shuaibu Amodu when Nigeria qualified
for the World Cup, but the pair were sacked and
replaced by Adegboye Onigbinde before the
showpiece in South Korea and Japan.
The ex-international was re-appointed in 2011 and
won the AFCON in 2013. He led the team reach the
second round of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
