the law and determine whether or not it
could be applicable to the state
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of was the first in
the North to propose the bill which will
regulate preaching across the state.
The controversial preaching bill was
allegedly unanimously endorsed by the 19
northern state governors on Friday, April 29.
However, This Day found out that some of
the governors might have dissociated from
it, noting that the peculiarity of their states
will not permit implementation of such law.

the first in the North to propose the bill
which will regulate preaching across the
state. The bill that triggered mixede
reactions among religious leaders and
common people is currently under
consideration at the state House of
Assembly.
At the meeting, the northern state governors
under the aegis of the Northern Governors’
Forum endorsed the commencement of the
issuance of licence to preachers in the
region.
In the communique, the governors alleged
proliferation of sects and preachers in the
region and agreed to close down all religious
organisations that refused to be licensed
with the respective state governments.

Contrary to rumours circulating on social
media, it has been confirmed that Nigerian
singer Tiwa Savage has not been dropped as
brand ambassador for Pepsi Nigeria.
According to M.D. Seven-Up Bottling Co.
Sunil Sawhney, and head of marketing
Norden Thurston, “Tiwa Savage remains a
Pepsi Ambassador and all rumours of her
being dropped by Pepsi should be
disregarded.’

As activities of Fulani I herdsmen gets more
notorious, the Anambra state government has
announced the launch of a helicopter for
aerial surveillance of the activities of
herdsmen in the state.
This was announced by the state governor,
Willie Obiano, during the Workers’ Day
celebration in Awka adding that he had set up
a special committee to foster peace between
farmers and the cattle grazers in the state.
The committee, the governor noted, was made
up of the leaders of the Hausa-Fulani
community in the state, government officials,
security agents and some representatives of
agrarian communities across the state.

allotted about N100million to beef up
security in the state

different neighborhood watch groups in over
400 communities
– The Federal government has appealed to
the southeast people to be calm
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state,
on Monday, May 2, doled out N100 million to
fund Neighbourhood watch groups in 472
communities to complement the services of
security agencies in the state.
Governor Ugwuanyi on a visit to agrarian
communities ravaged by suspected Fulani
herdsmen.
The governor also mandated the Ministry of
Poverty Reduction and Human Capital to
quickly inaugurate Neighbourhood Watch
groups in all the 472 communities to forestal
a recurrence of Fulani herdsmen invasion of
any part of the state.
Vanguard reports that this came on a day,
the traditional rulers and town’s union
presidents in the state in a communique
stated in part: “We are also grateful to the
governor for the donation of the sum of N100
million in support of the security efforts and
activities of the communities.
“We have resolved to go back to our
respective communities to mobilize the people
and sensitize them on the need to support the
initiatives of the government as they relate to
security of lives and properties in Enugu state.
“Rebuilding Nimbo community Barely one week
after the attack of Nimbo community in Uzo-
Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State by
the Fulani herdsmen, citizens of the state in
the United Kingdom, have offered to assist
rebuild burnt houses, damaged properties, and
donated clothings and food items for the
refugees of the community.
The special adviser to Enugu state governor,
Mrs Olangwa Eziekwu made the offer when
she visited Nimbo refugees at Nsukka
stadium where she donated cartons of
Indomie noodles, bags of rice, tissue papers,
fruit drinks, among others, and promised to
bring more in no distant time as citizens of
the state in Diaspora would send more relief
materials to the victims and the displaced
ones of the community.
