MAN CITY CONTACTED JUVENTUS FOR POGBA LAST YEAR - MAROTTA

MAN CITY CONTACTED
JUVENTUS FOR POGBA LAST
YEAR - MAROTTA
By Peter McVitie

The Serie A club's director admitted that the
English side have shown an interest in the
midfielder, but stresses they hope to hold
onto him for several more years
Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta has
revealed that Manchester City approached
the Serie A champions for Paul Pogba last
year, but maintains the club want to hold
onto the midfielder for years to come.
The France international remains one of the
most sought after players in the world, with
Juve having rejected a bid from Barcelona
before the 2015-16 campaign while Real
Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are
continually linked to him.
Marotta says that the former Manchester
United midfielder has been the subject of
interest from City too, but says that this is
still not the time for the Bianconeri to sell
the 23-year-old.
"Manchester City asked us for Paul Pogba
last year," he said. "Along with Paulo Dybala,
Pogba is one of the most popular players.
"It's not yet time to sell Pogba, he is not on
the transfer market. We want to keep it very
tight, he is just 23 and he is in a position
to stay with us for many years."

Juve attacker Alvaro Morata has also been
linked to a move away from Turin ahead of
the upcoming transfer window, with Real
Madrid reportedly open to activating the buy-
back clause they have for him, but the
director insists the club see him as a key
player.
"Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is a
great leader, we have an excellent
relationship with the club," he added.
"I think that within three weeks we will reach
a decision over his future. Morata is an
important player, and he will cost a lot of
money."
After guiding the club to his second Serie A
title and their fourth in a row, Massimiliano
Allegri is expected to sign a new contract
with Juve.
While nothing has been confirmed, Marotta
has reiterated that it is only a matter of time
before the deal is sealed.
"Allegri's renewal is only a formality, to the
great satisfaction of both parties. We are
going to extend his contract at least one
year, compared to June 2017. The
relationship with Allegri is great. We never
had the suspicion that he could leave."

FAT CHANCE OF THIS WITH RAFA! ZIDANE GAMBLE PAYS OFF AS MADRID MAKE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL

FAT CHANCE OF THIS WITH RAFA!
ZIDANE GAMBLE PAYS OFF AS
MADRID MAKE CHAMPIONS
LEAGUE FINAL

By Ben Hayward

The Frenchman has overseen a notable
improvement in La Liga and in Europe since
the sacking of Benitez and Real's march to
the Milan showpiece is vindication for
Florentino Perez

The " Zidane effect" is a reality after all. The
Frenchman took over at Real Madrid in
January with no top-level coaching
experience and initial impressions were
mixed, but he has now led Los Blancos to the
Champions League final. The gamble for
Florentino Perez has well and truly paid off.
In his first few weeks in charge, the players
appeared happier and all spoke of how the
team was more unified under Zidane. Pepe
even said that the 1998 World Cup star would
go on to become one of the best coaches in
the world.
However, there were ups and downs. Big
wins at home early on in his reign were
similar to results attained by Benitez, while
Madrid struggled away and the loss to
Atletico at the Santiago Bernabeu in late
February raised serious doubts all over again.
Since then, though, he has shown that he is
an upgrade on Rafa. The 2-1 win in the
Clasico at Camp Nou was a big boost, ending
Barcelona's 39-match unbeaten streak and
also reopening the title race as the Catalans
subsequently suffered a dip in form.
Days later, Madrid lost 2-0 at Wolfsburg, but
that only made Zidane more determined. "I
love a difficult challenge," he said. And his
side won the second match 3-0 to turn the
tie around and make the last four. Now, with
a narrow victory over Manchester City, they
are in the final and his influence cannot be
understated.
Under Benitez, Real managed an extremely
fortuitous win over Paris Saint-Germain in the
group stages, but were desperately
disappointing against the top teams and were
made to look ludicrous by Barca in their 4-0
Clasico loss at the Santiago Bernabeu. Four
was bad enough, but it could easily have
been five or six.
While Rafa was defensive and far too
negative, Zidane is a breath of fresh air in
press conferences and much happier in
dialogue with his players, supporting them
instead of the awkward remarks made by the
Spaniard which upset many members .The vast spaces between midfield and
attack in the Clasico humiliation have been
evident at times, but the team works much
better now as a unit and even Gareth Bale,
Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo have
been tracking back and helping out
defensively in the biggest games.

REAL MADRID COULD BUY MORATA BACK AND SELL HIM TO CHELSEA

REAL MADRID COULD BUY
MORATA BACK AND SELL HIM TO
CHELSEA

By Nizaar Kinsella, Romeo Agresti & Alberto
Pinero

The Liga giants are ready to cash in by
exercising the buy-back clause in the Spain
international's contract and then sell him to
the Blues in the summer transfer window
EXCLUSIVE
Real Madrid are ready to exercise their buy-
back clause on Alvaro Morata but could
immediately sell the Juventus star to
Chelsea, Goal understands.
The deposed Premier League champions are
interested in bolstering their strike force with
the addition of Morata, with Radamel Falcao
set to depart and uncertainty surrounding the
future of Loic Remy as well as first-choice
Diego Costa.
The deal could be made possible by the
clause inserted into the deal signed between
Madrid and Juventus when Morata was
transferred to the Italian title holders for
around €20 million in 2014. Although Morata
signed a new Juventus contract in December,
the clause remains intact and currently
stands at €30m plus add-ons.
Madrid would not be able to guarantee
Morata a starting role at Santiago Bernabeu
due to the presence of Karim Benzema and
the increasingly-central role offered to
Cristiano Ronaldo and are aware that Chelsea
are among the clubs who would be tempted
to pay a high price to land the 23-year-old.
Juventus do not want to lose one of the
cornerstones of their recent success with
Morata having won two Serie A titles in a
row, but they would make a relatively small
profit of €10m on the Spain international
should Madrid decide to trigger the clause.
Any further deal between Madrid and an
interested party such as the Blues would
mean Juventus being cut out.
Due to the complexity of the arrangement
and the transfer window being closed
Chelsea are monitoring the situation.

EU urges Nigeria to improve agricultural export

EU urges Nigeria to improve
agricultural export

– The EU has urged Nigeria to develop its
agricultural sector
– It says the agricultural sector must be
competitive in order to meet international
demand
– The fall of the price of oil has made
Nigeria begin to diversify the economy
Farmers may soon be some of the
wealthiest people in the country following a
call by the European Union (EU) urging
Nigeria to increase its agricultural export.
rubber plantation
The overreliance on oil over the past
decades has seen a steady decline in the
concentration and exportation of agricultural
produce and made it less practised.
With the fall in the price of oil, farmers seem
to be the new lifeline as the Nigeria
government has been asked by EU to
increase export of agricultural produces like
rubber, cocoa and palm oil to the EU
countries.
Vanguard reports that Mr Michel Arrion who
is the head of EU delegation to Nigeria and
ECOWAS this at a press conference on
commemorate the 40 years of EU-Nigeria
partnership on Wednesday, May 4 in Abuja.
He said there were export produce Nigeria
could develop in large quantities as those
things were in low supply in Europe.
He said: “There are potential exports like
rubber for instance for tiles that you could
certainly develop. We will be delighted to
import and to buy more rubber from Nigeria;
the problem is that the production is very
small. We will be delighted to buy more cocoa
from Nigeria. We are buying most of our
cocoa from Ivory Coast and Ghana, while not
from Nigeria.”
cocoa harvest
He challenged Nigeria to think of what it
could produce in addition to its own
consumption but emphasised that the
country must meet its local demands before
exporting.
He explained that Nigeria has a lot of
possibilities in agricultural products but that
it would take several years to really have an
export-oriented commercial farming policy.
He also said that there was the need for the
price of Nigerian products to be competitive.
“You have to be competitive, I mentioned palm
oil; I see a potential market for palm oil
exportation from Nigeria to EU if the prices are
competitive.
“Today, they are not. Malaysia for instance,
offers more competitive price, so Nigeria has
also to work on the competitiveness of the
country’s products.”
He explained that costs of production,
labour, land and energy were some of the
factors responsible for the competitiveness
in price.
He said: “When your refineries of palm oil
have to produce their own energy instead of
being connected to the grid, you are less
competitive than others.
