“few days” – VP Osinbajo

The controversial budget 2016 will be put
into effect in “a few days”, according to
the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The general and vague wording was given
by Mr Osinbajo at the 12th Edition of The
Platform, a public policy forum held in Abuja

In a stop the Ekiti state government’s plan
to impose levies on pupils in its primary and
secondary schools, the Catholic Diocese of
Ekiti has filed a suit restraining the Ekiti
government from further demand of the levy.
According to The Nation newspaper, the
Church wants the court to determine “if
every child of primary school and junior
secondary school age in Ekiti State is not
entitled to free and compulsory basic
education and also determine if “the
imposition of education development levy or
any tax or levy on pupils and schools in Ekiti
State, including the claimants’ schools, by the
defendants, does not violate Section 2 of
Compulsory Free Universal Basic Education
Act 2004 and Section 19 of the State Universal
Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Law.”

He said the growth of the economy and

on how much support workers give to
Government’s policies, programmes and
projects.
In a solidarity message to mark the May day
celebrations signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, his
special adviser, media and publicity, Saraki
expressed his appreciation and commended
Nigerian workers and the organized labour
movement in the country for their
contributions to the nation’s economic
growth and overall development.
He said from the pre-independence era till
now, the labour movement has provided the
backbone for the survival of the country.

One of Nigeria’s most respected traditional
rulers, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar
lll has commented on the ongoing
nationwide attacks by Fulani herdsmen.
Sa’ad Abubakar lll who is also the president-
General of the Jama’atul Nasir Islam
cautioned Nigerians not to brand terror
attacks with in religious and ethnic
garments.
He however said perpetrators must be when
apprehended and made to face justice and
to forestall a recurrence.
The Sultan said: “Jama’atu Nasril Islam
received with great shock and deep concern
the news of incessant killings and maiming of
innocent lives and the destruction of public
and private properties. Of particular concern is
the brutal murder of people in Agatu, Benue
State, Nnibo, Enugu State and some parts of
Nasarawa State.

– Tompolo sends a message to President
Buhari denying his involvement in pipeline
vandalism
– He claims he is also not a member of the
Niger Delta Avengers group that has
promised to vandalise more pipelines
– He claimed APC members are behind
recent atrocities
Chief Government Ekpemupolo popularly
known as Tompolo has sent an open letter
to President Muhammadu Buhari denying his
involvement in the vandalism of oil and gas
pipelines in the Niger Delta region.
The former militant is wanted by the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
and has been arraigned by the anti-graft
agency in absentia . Shortly after he was
declared wanted, a group, Niger Delta
Avengers claimed responsibility of the
bombing of pipelines and vowed to continue
their operation until the lives of the people
in the region improved.
The vandals have been fingered as
Tompolo’s boys who have been accused of
committing the atrocities because their boss
was wanted by the EFCC.
Leadership reports that Tompolo, in an open
letter personally signed and titled “Am not
part of the Niger Delta Avengers Group”,
alleged that the oil pipeline repair servicing
companies sabotage the pipelines in order to
secure surveillance and repair contracts
from the Nigerian National Petroleum
Company (NNPC) due to deficiency in
handling the jobs.
He also claimed that members of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta and
Bayelsa states were unhappy with the
president over delay in political appointment
and were could have commited atrocities in
the region due to Buhari’s disappointment.
